On Saturday, May 5th, we broke the ground. There were no fanfares or a fancy ceremony, just the two of us. It had been raining all week, so we were hoping that the ground would be softer and easier to dig, which was true most of the time.
We quickly discovered what hard work digging is! It didn't help that we, the city slickers, were very out of shape. But the physical challenge was overlooked compared to sheer joy of actually seeing the first step of this project that we've been preparing for a couple of years. All the hours of dreaming, planning, worrying, talking -- it all comes down to this very primitive and small step!
