Day 15 - Transition I

Saturday, June 16, 2001. Transition time. We were so surprised to find rain collected in our foundation trench - it didn't rain at all in Austin! Another lesson learned - don't ever leave home without rubber boots.

The big task today was to go and purchase rocks and gravel for the foundation. We spent some time taking care of minor things on the site and went out to Bastrop Stone Supply. We bought 12 yards of river washed gravel and 4.5 tons of dray stack rocks. It took quite a struggle to get a big dump truck out to the land, but in the end everything went fine. We were amazed how small the pile looked after they were dumped! But we know for sure that 4.5 tons of rocks will not be enough to build our foundation. But this is a good start.

Even more water than the previous week. The drain here is pretty bad! We could see that providing proper drainage for the foundation was indeed very important.

This time Ari just took off his shoes and dove in to bucket the water out.

Here's our gravel.

And our foundation rocks. Can you imagine a wall made out of these?

Terri cutting down some branches so that the big dump truck could get close to our building site.
