Day 40 - Building the Foundation XIII

Saturday, Oct. 13, 2001. When the first batch of the rocks were delivered months ago, we had them dump the pile about 30 feet from the site and then used wheelbarrows to carry them. This time we had them dump the rocks right by the site and just rolled the rocks we couldn't lift. Why didn't we think of that before? We spent like 3 work sessions just moving rocks the last time! The more we do things, the more we know about effective and efficient ways to them, and at this point our rock stacking speed is several times faster and better than when we first started. We're impressed by our own progress.

Terri demonstrating the stability of our rocks. Or is she demonstrating her balancing ability? We must say, we are very proud of our foundation. It feels solid.

The foundation made it over half of the perimeter, with the southern wall on its third layer.

Here you can see the three layers of southern wall. The fourth layer will be the final on this side.
