Day 44 - Building the Foundation XVII

Saturday, Oct. 27, 2001. More rock stacking and weed pulling. We're getting very good at stacking rocks now. We learned that we can be slightly more liberal with chinkers because we can secure those with mortar. So putting a rock over rocks of different height is easier, although it still needs to be done with utmost care. We still step on each rock before mortaring, just to ensure that it is absolutely stable without cement. Then the cement will make sure that it'll stay that way.


Another look at the progress. You can see that the northern wall (the far side) is getting closer to the ground level. We'll probably have to take a little off of earth from that side, as the ground there is even higher than the intended floor level.
