Sunday, Nov. 11, 2001. Today was the first day of serious cobbing. Our friends Justin, Yu, Hana and Kai came to help us once again, and they were among the first to dive head first into the mud! We taught them how to make good batches of cob in 15 minutes, proving once again how easy it is to cob. Even Hana, a 5-year-old, helped a lot by stomping and spraying water on the cob. The kids also had fun playing the clay pit, although little Kai (almost 3 yrs. old) got stuck at one point. Cobbing is a good, clean (well, actually it is quite dirty, but...) family fun.

Another look at the southern wall. As you can see the wall is not quite straight. The foundation took an organic shape, so the wall on top of it has curves as well. This is perfectly OK in cob construction. |
