Saturday, Dec. 1, 2001. Another milestone was achieved today, in the form of the main door frame! We had built our door frame at home and today we brought it to the land to install it. The frame looks very big in this small house, especially since none of the walls are very high yet. But it is really necessary to put in the frame now, so that we can build the walls around the door.
Small miracle happened when we put the two legs of the frames down into their respective slots in the foundation. The frame was perfectly perpendicular and completely level. We couldn't have done it if we tried! One very minor adjustment was made since the door was leaning forward slightly, but other than that, we poured the cement right in to secure it before we could mess it up. We installed two studs to further secure the frame and we were done. Hurray!
However, things didn't go so well that evening, when an unexpected rain fell. We had last checked the weather forecast on Thursday night, and there was no rain predicted for the weekend. We had not sealed the frame as Terri was still trying to determine what was the best way to do so. So we were on our way to Wal-Mart to buy a big piece of plastic to cover it up for the time being. That's when it started raining! So now the wood is wet, although we did cover it up soon afterward and prevented the wood from getting too soaked in water. It shouldn't cause a big problem, hopefully, but it was a bummer that it happened. Lessons learned - take extra precautions, and never trust the weatherman!
