Day 59 -
Building the Walls XI
Friday, December 21, 2001. Today we were going to work on cobbing in the door frame and finishing the plumbing, but our friends Omikawas came out so we decided to cob together instead. Omikawas are Terri's English tutor students, and they are from Japan.
Omikawas picked up cobbing really fast and were working as well and hard as we were in no time. And it sure helps! We made like six batches of cob and added 6 inches to the northern wall in 2 hours. We had a lot of fun, too. Omikawas had a nice digital camera with them, so some of the pictures below were taken by them. We have lots of good action shots today!

Nobuki and Terri carrying a bucket of sand. This is how we carry them when it's too heavy for one person to carry.

Ari dumping clay into the pile.

Yuri stomping away. She was wearing a jacket at first but quickly it came off.

Terri showing Yuri how to mix a batch.

And Yuri got the jist of it really quick.

Yuri tossing a cob loaf.

And Nobuki catching it. He thought that catching was more fun than throwing.

Nobuki and Terri putting them on the wall.

Kayoko (the mom) particularly enjoyed poking holes in the wall with a cobber's thumb. She joked about how it lets her take out her aggression nicely.

Terri is inspecting the wall to make sure its width are correct and that they are going up straight.
