Day 62 - Building the Walls XIV

Wednesday, December 26, 2001. Today we brought out the second door frame and figured out how to put it on the western foundation. After trying a few minor variations, we figured out the ideal location and the angle. This frame has a threshold at the bottom, which is made of hardwood, oak. The first door frame has two pieces of big, long rocks instead, but since we didn't have that for the second one, we decided to use regular rocks underneath, then level it off with cement, and use a wooden threshold. We also put on a batch of cob by the main door frame. The walls are getting higher, slowly but surely!

This is a "patty" of cement on which the door frame will rest. We used a level to ensure that it's as flat and level as possible. We'll put the frame on it when it's dry, then use cob from sides to hold it in place.
