Day 72 - Building the Walls XXIV

Thursday, January 18, 2002. We had a long and hard discussion about how the counter was going to get attached to the wall, because the first plan we tried didn't seem to work very well. Basically we put in 2x4s in the wall, sticking out horizontally, and that was going to hold up the counter tops. However, the problem was that we had a very hard time keeping them all level, parallel and at the same height. So we talked about building the counters more or less like tables, with legs holding up its weight, and then attaching them to wood pieces in the wall somehow. We left the 2x4s in the wall as well -- let's see which plan works better.

But the third widnow frame did go up. Now the eastern side has two windows on both sides of the main door. This is the side we will see when we come home from outside. And we like what we see there.

Here's the "face" of the house! Well, we know it looks a little crooked. But the ground is not completely flat and nothing in this house is perfectly square or level, so we just let things fall where they do.

The inside of the southeastern corner looks even more complicated than the last time. We're trying to fit in counter top, under-the-counter cabinet, electric wiring and plumbing in here. Wish us luck!
