Day 80 - Building the Walls XXXII

Sunday, Feb. 20, 2002. This was probably the coldest day in our building history. The wind was blowing 20-30 miles per hour from the north! It never got warm in the afternoon, we think the windchill never left the 30s. We must be crazy doing this in this kind of weather!

But actually we bundled up and worked hard and felt pretty good for the most part. Since the wind was from the north we worked on the other southern space between the windows. This is going to be right behind our oven. We debated about what we can do with the wall here, since this place will get very hot and steamy. In the end we decided to make a large shelf for our tea pot. This was the only item we could think of that can get hot and steamy! The rest of our pots and pans are going to hang from the ceiling.

Our friend Justin, and Yu (with little girls Hana and Kai) brought us a lunch, so we had a picnic in the house. We sat and ate in our dining area, and the walls blocked most of the wind -- so it wasn't so bad, actually. The more we build, the more shelter we have from the weather. (obviously!)

The view of the newly-built kitchen area. The wall to the right of the picture is today's addition.

A close look of today's addition. The two little arches on the sides are cute but at this point we don't know what will fit in there. The middle is where we'll have our tea pot.

The view of the south side of the house from the outside. It doesn't take much imagination now to see a house!

A closer look of yesterday's addition, the southeastern corner. The arch look seems to be a trend. The box on the bottom right will be a four-plex outlet.
